Biography
In 1990, artist Elizabeth Keithline invented a sculpture technique called "Lost Box", wherein wire is woven around an object which is then burned, leaving only a wire mesh shape behind. One of the larger piece she wove was an upright piano, rescued from the refuse heap, which was burned on-air on WRNI radio. The flames were thirty feet high. This body of work is continually growing and changing with new installations like Smarter/Faster/Higher to be shown in 2010.
Keithline is a full-time artist, whose work has been shown nationally and part of many collections. She has taught Fibers at Rhode Island College, coordinated or curated several art shows attracting national artists, and run a school-based artist-in-residency program. She has also served as a consultant to the towns and organizations in their pursuit of public sculpture commissions.
